We visited Freedom House. That one was really homey. Everywhere you turn, there's a little nook with little chairs and table set up. There were big windows that they could see outside all the way around. The facility was very nice. Everybody was really nice. They have a dog and a cat that are residents there, and all the people were petting them.
We looked at Freedom House, and it was the one that we were really seriously considering. What was different about it was the way they treated their patients and the way they hired their people. When they hired somebody, they actually put them in the place of the patient for a day or two so that they would know what kind of treatment was to be expected from the helpers there. Not only that, they had divided-up the groups of patients. They had three houses. The best part was they were well recognized in Alzheimer's as a leading place. They treated the people very nicely. Not only that, they had divided-up the groups of patients. They had three houses. The best part was they were well recognized in Alzheimer's as a leading place. They treated the people very nicely. They were the best. They had arrangements with separate facilities for each group. The all lived in a little complex that was sort of circular to the all of the places so that when they get up in the morning, you could see the patients next door. I liked it because they were formed in groups; they lived together and moved along together. I knew that each complex had its own kitchen. They brought the food there, and the people were all served in the same place. The three different groups had their own bathrooms. In some cases, two people shared a bath, and some people in some rooms had individual bathrooms. They had monitors or cameras in every single room, and it was pretty impressive.
Well run facility. Residents are well cared for and generally happy. This is in a CCRC, so I am able to visit my spouse daily and take her out whenever I wish. I am presently in independent living and can walk over for visits.
Wow. The greatest gift my Mom could have given to my family was her entry into the Freedom House at the Air Force Village. I did not know that it was open to the public, I thought only military people - Not true. The care waas wonderful and the facility is incredible. The way it's laid out was very comfortable and the staff and even the people who lived there made it feel like home and family. My mom's life was better, my sister and my life was better watching her being so well taken care of in such a bright and clean place. She was a special woman and deserved this kind of care at the end of her life. Thank you Freedom House
This facility provides outstanding care. It is on the grounds of Air Force Village II, in San Antonio, and is, I believe, one of the top rated Alzheimer facilities in the U.S. The caregivers are professional, caring, fun, and spirited. The food is terrific, the care is top-notch.
