My grandfather was a patient here for about a year. In that time, we noticed that there was lots of turnover with nurses and staff. I think over all he was treated fair, some nurses were nicer than others but you always want to see the best care being given by everyone. There was also an incident where a family member’s wallet was left in the room and when it was picked up the next day there was $200 missing. It’s hard to trust your loved one in a place where staff can’t even be trusted to not go through a wallet in the room. It’s unfortunate that it happened. Gives you a bad feeling.
A diamond in Harlingen! Golden Palms has been exceptional! A terrific facility and an unparelleled staff. Highly recommend!
Amazing facility! Friendly and attentive staff! Norma and Eddie are great! Staff seem very happy and you can see that in the patient care!
My mother has lived here for over a year. She did not want to make this move but after her first few days she made many friends, got involved in activities and loves the staff. It’s not perfect, but pretty darn close. Norma the manager is great as well as the staff. The residents are great too!!
I’m so thankful for the excellent care my mom has received at Golden Palms. The staff works hard and is kind and respectful to the residents. I appreciate them so much.
This is an amazing place, Norma Colwell gave me the most wonderful tour, I have relatives that attend and they always say the place is such a dream. They love and enjoy living here!
I've visited this facility a hand full of times and every time I would enter it would smell like mold and just looking up you see spots of black mold in the hallways. The door where the plaque says "executive director" is always closed and when I ask at the front desk where the director is, it is always the same answers either "she's not in today" or "she's in a meeting" and I've heard that numerous times and I'm the type of person to not bother people when they're doing something important so I let the people in the front know to not to get the director if they're busy especially meetings because important stuff can be going on but, every time I go into that building... really? it's always a meeting and from the looks of it looks like those meetings ain't doing much for the building or residents. A lot of inconsistencies happen between nursing and what I'm presuming is the nursing director, being told two things by two different people and not knowing who to believe personally I would much rather believe the nurse and the information she gave me because I am a very observant person I've noticed that the nursing director and the executive director aren't really there for the patients I never see them on the floor and these poor nurses, I would enter the building and I would see the nurses eating which I have no problem with it I too have family in medical and I know how stressful that can be especially from what it seems in my eyes that this place is short-staffed so they are already doing the job they need to be doing and doing the job of another person and it's absolutely horrible, I get why these nurses stress eat. I mean having patients lives in your hands, those nurses and CNA's are the real heroes but other than that everybody else seems like they're just there to sit and get paid. Absolutely horrible putting all this pressure and tasks on these nurses I always tell everybody I would not recommend this place.
I cannot speak for the entire building but as for the healthcare side, would not recommend to anyone. Theres so much wrong with the place, really makes you question who and how they are running it. No one ever seems to be at the front desk. Whether it's in person for the front door or calling, it takes a while and most times the call is transferred to the wrong department. Upon entering the building reeks like urine and has a dirty feeling. From experience visiting, the front desk personnel and the nurses always seem to be eating. Food is laid around like a buffet, which is quite alarming. If they aren't eating, it's watching television or gossiping, paying no mind to who's around. That alone was very disappointing. A few nurses have an attitude and seem incompetent with basic medical inquires. Unfortunately, those seem to be on shift more often than not and will never get back to you like they say. When speaking to staff and the supposed "director", there's a lot of inconsistencies. One would assume proper and accurate communication would be key, especially in this field. The only good thing is the therapy, but definitely not worth going.
