I deeply regret the decision to move my mom to Independence Hill Assisted Living, as she tragically passed away just one month after her admission. Despite repeated calls to the Director, my mom did not receive her low blood pressure medication for over a month. The head nurse admitted last year that the facility was "overwhelmed and understaffed," yet this critical issue was never addressed. Despite repeated calls to the Director, my mom did not receive her low blood pressure medication for over a month. The head nurse admitted last year that the facility was "overwhelmed and understaffed," yet this critical issue was never addressed. My mom’s death was a result of not receiving the necessary medication. She suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, which could have been prevented with proper care. The lack of accountability across the staff, including the Director, is deeply concerning. Instead of taking responsibility, they continue to blame each other or outsourced services for their negligence. I strongly caution anyone considering this facility for their loved ones. If your loved one is already here, I highly recommend moving them or, at the very least, installing cameras to monitor the care they are receiving. This facility failed to meet even basic standards of care, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the pain our family experienced.
It's not perfect, but she is very happy there and I am very pleased with the changes from the new director it is much better run now. The new director runs things in an excellent professional manner from a business perspective, is quick to take action when concerns arise. there are quite a few longtime staff members who are personally connected with residents. outings and activities are very strong as well. Facility is beautiful and the grounds Are being well maintained under new director. Only complaint is the amount of carpeting throughout common areas and that it is difficult to keep it…

The new director runs things in an excellent professional manner from a business perspective, is quick to take action when concerns arise. there are quite a few longtime staff members who are personally connected with residents. outings and activities are very strong as well. Facility is beautiful and the grounds Are being well maintained under new director. Only complaint is the amount of carpeting throughout common areas and that it is difficult to keep it appearing clean. The food is decent, some items like soups and desserts Are resident favorites. They provide a shuttle that is helpful for getting my mom to routine appointments when I can't make it myself. Quite a few visitors from the community for service hours and the residents enjoy that.
They have a lot of fun activities for the residence, such as music, bingo, etc. The waiters know all the residents by name which I find amazing and also a great personal touch. I really like the fact that you can have breakfast plus either lunch or dinner. This flexibility is so so nice. They keep things clean and tidy, and it is a bright cheerful atmosphere at Independence Hill.
Do not feel it's high enough level of care or licensure to age in place long term. Carpet looks worn and dirty especially in high traffic areas, older building so some areas just don't appear clean. Quite a few amazing and kind people work there. My family member is still fairly independent. I do not feel this is a place they can age in place long-term with a high-level of care. We are not receiving some of the services we were told we would be, and some services are difficult to pin down when they are available and how to obtain them. It took over a week to get the batteries replaced in a fall pendant, and they have been without a nurse on site for several weeks. The food was amazing when we toured and first moved in, but has taken a significant decline since then. Meat is tough, vegetables are overcooked and slimy and not appealing. Chef is very friendly as are several of the waitstaff who are doing their best. This seems to be an across-the-board concern by many of the residents. Would love to see it rectified. [name removed] does a wonderful job with decor and activities, although it is difficult for many of the residents to interact on a similar level because of the extreme difference in abilities. Yes, kind and friendly staff with engaging activities and beautiful decor. Great for the right family member who is independent or needs entry level assistance.
Independence Hill Assisted Living seems very nice. The staff in the dining room seems to know all of the residents by name and are very sweet and patient. The overall cleanliness of the facility seems very good and they steam clean the hallway carpets regularly. The front desk staff are very nice and accommodating. They often have entertainment on Sunday afternoons, such as singers who come in and all of the residents seem to enjoy that quite a bit. I looked at a bunch of facilities and this one seemed a great value for the price and felt right. The move in process was very smooth and when we realized that the renovated bathroom did not have grab bars, they tended to that the same day. The meals are pretty good. They have everyday offerings such as grilled cheese, chicken salad sandwiches, and hamburgers. Then 3 specials that change each night, such as beef stroganoff, ham, macaroni and cheese, asparagus and things like that. Residents can get a cup of soup, salad, and dessert with each meal if they would like. They can also take the food to go and that is really convenient. I would recommend Independence Hill and I really like that the Assisted Living side is a beautiful space and a pre-planned next step for my mom.
This facility, 5 years ago, was the best in town, then they got new ownership and everything started going down hill fast. The personal care and help with the little things around the apartment gradually stopped, to the point of discust. After pointing out the problems, we were ready to move Mom out, but she likes living there. The staff turnover has been almost 100% since she moved in, and there doesn't seem to be anyone who knows the residents well enough to carry on a conversation with them. When the staff is telling the family of the residents how bad management is, you know something is wrong. Then things slowly started to get better, and I will say, it all seemed to be related to the attidude of management. once they changed the manager, things started to improve. We do like the location and the atmosphere, and are hoping that things continue to improve. We did have a few issues with med techs, not giving medications as perscribed, but that seems to have been corrected.
Independence is a well maintained place. Everyone I’ve dealt with is kind, caring, and extremely helpful. All of the residence I’ve communicated with show joy and happiness. I’m proud to be a part of this great place keeping people comfortable, safe, and happy. 👍:-)
Independence Village looks like it used to be nice. It really needs some updating. I was specifically looking for a community that had independent living, assisted living, and memory care all on the same property.
