Before you leave a loved one in a place that was recommend check It out for yourself and read the reviews. It may save thier life! The Matlock Place was so bad that the patient himself called 911 twice wanting to go to the hospital! He could not keep anything down without vomiting and they took his nausea medicine away without letting the patient or family know. This caused him to get weaker . The family being unaware that they quit giving him nausea medicine it became a guessing game on why he wasn't getting better. This caused him to get weak and other problems started to occur . The family being unaware that they quit giving him nausea medicine it became a guessing game on why he wasn't getting better. This caused him to get weak and other problems started to occur . The staff was asked several times for a catheter due to him having a leg amputated and he was newly blind. The staff ingorned the request that was asked several times by the patient and the family. He was wearing depends which caused him a rash. When he was taken to the hospital did the ER hospital Dr. Show a family member a sore on his back which was caused from him being left wet . Not acceptable! On the 5th day finally the family got a meeting with the social worker, administrator and staff. Finally dId something get done and he was sent to the hospital because his hemoglobin was a 6.5 that is almost to late . No reason why that should have not been done sooner. If the Matlock Place had done what was asked and requested several days prior he would not have been calling 911 days before he was actual taken to the hospital. So please pay close attention to the care of where you leave your loved ones. Thier lives depend on the quality care they are left in.
This has to be the Worst place I have ever had to stay. The nurses were nice enough, but the rest of the care was terrible. The kitchen staff couldn't ever get the breakfast order right and they didn't seem to care about that. The director or the cafeteria even came to see me, and they stiff never got it right. Why they keep someone that can't get their staff to follow orders is beyond me. When they told me I was out of my Ambien (sleep meds) though and I had to go three nights without it before it got straightened out was the last straw. That is when they really started messing with my…

DO NOT leave your loved ones at this facility. Staff is beyond rude. My mother's incision was not even checked. Labs never shared with us. Food was really bad. Bad patient care and customer service. No response to call button or front desk phones for 30 minutes responding to my mother's calls for help due to a male, disoriented patient coming into and staying in her room for the entire thirty minutes with no response. With her eye swollen closed due to infection the brought her a word search book for her social activity. Really.
The first response that I have is, that my husband is home, safe, no COVID, and I'm very grateful for that! We had the experience for 10 weeks with Matlock Place, unable to visit, as we all well know, I appreciate the staff for allowing him to survive. My husband has a lot of medical maladies, and was admitted for rehab only, I believe that facilities just get a bad rep for the few that might not be efficient in their work ethic as the dedicated ones who truly want to take care of our loved ones as we would like. Geriatrics is just not a sought after field, as pediatrics and the ones who are taking good care of our loved ones, are usually over-worked, unappreciated and left with the responsibility to do the best that they can. There are some very good hard working folk at Matlock Place, and with the COVID, their managing the BEST that they can! I didn't like the "no answering the phones," mainly after hours and weekends. Especially with the lock down! I'm an all hands on person, and not to be able to be there daily to be sure we're all on the same page. A lot of people want to complain about the care of their loved ones and not participate, encourage, communicate with the staff, (nurses, kitchen, custodial, laundry, administrators, supervisors, therapist, and of course the receptionist). Persistence, patience, & respect were the key for me, with a little sprinkle of kindness I was able to make an unexpected and unwanted situation, durable. In closing, Colbie, Joann, Rachel, Michelle, I thank you personally for fulfilling my request at any given time. Collectively you all make it work, I appreciate each of you for making sure my husband was taken care of, the way I would suggest from time to time. Ms. E
I was very happy with my moms care at Matlock Place. Her rehab was wonderful and the team was very caring and communicative. Mom said it was very clean too. I would definitely recommend them.
Poor communication and poor consistent care. The social worker lacks the skills needed in the role to keep families updated and in the loop of care being provided, failed to provide communication required to update on changes to care or extension of their stay, and lacks the social skills in handling matters when managing to speak with them after 5 weeks without any returned call or updates. Care provided is lacking. They treat the patients on the rehabilitation side no differently than long term care. Not consistent with helping patients with hygiene care or restroom assistance. In the time our loved one was there, several instances of patients attacking other patients or attendants occurred. Very concerning environment. They received 1 star because the lady who handles admissions is kind, informative, and helpful. They just fall apart in all areas after that initial point.
Many caregivers were wonderful; some could not speak or understand English. Many hours to answer call buttons. Unreasonable amount of time to respond to patient calls. Unable to reach the facility after hours by phone. Unacceptable.
If I could, I would give this facility less than one star! The nurse O-B and here supervisor, Rachael, pretended to listen and care but did nothing to improve my mother's situation while there! If anything, she got worse while she was under their care and objected to us removing my mother from the facility when we saw it was necessary. Many of the staff are good at what they do, unfortunately, the two handling my mother's care during her rehabilitation weren't!! Other staff members privately confirmed that they are very short-handed at this facility and nurses don't voluntarily chip in to help the Certified Nurse's Aids (CNAs) when needed! As a matter of fact, very few of the staff volunteer to do anything and give the impression that it is a major inconvenience to assist! Phone calls ring endlessly, patients' "red button" calls go ignored!!! The staff doctor, Dr. Satani, isn't much better if we consider effectiveness. Besides, he goes twice a week and many times... not even that! It's a real mess at this facility although they insist that the change in management last summer has made some major improvement!!! Although complaints were ongoing on our part, the head administrator took no interest in reaching out to us. Thanks to Joanna, Social Administrator, who was the only one who listened and helped us with our situation. If you love your family member, DON'T bring them here! If you have had a good or bad experience, please post them to let future family members know the present condition of this facility. My regret is that I didn't take the bad reviews more seriously. My hopes were that since they were from a few years ago that things had improved... not the case!!! Stay away from here and look for another place! Oh and yes we are reporting this facility to the state for follow-up!!
