Run far far away from this place. When we put my mom in over 2 years ago it was great. Then new ownership took over and it was awful. Long time employees left, food quality went down and they would set the a/c to a ridiculous amount. One of our last weekends there, my dog wouldn’t even eat the food that was served. We had to go buy my mom her own dinner. We also had to call management because they set the a/c to 83 degrees and it was 90 degrees outside. They had a lock box around the thermostat that the house employees couldn’t get to. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough.
Mom has been at Mayberry for 18 months now in the safe memory care. It was wonderful in the beginning. Vera was an exceptional loving caregiver. Recently THEY moved mom to a new building and no more Vera. It seems no one cares anymore about mom or her stuff.Everything I have brought to mom disappears including 4 pair of glasses that she needs. Her pictures and treasured books are not out for her to get to since she has little or no use of her hands. Mostly when I pop in she is laying in the dark in her bed or chair just waiting to die. It is heartbreaking
If you were to ask me 2 years ago my review would have been higher but the new management has set the bar for assisted living facilities on the ground. Where to begin. My mother had a stroke in 2004 but lived with my father until he passed. She is physically disabled but otherwise fine. We chose this facility because of its location and the fact it claimed to have physical therapy available as well as activities for the residents. The new management fired the events coordinator and the therapy company to save money. That did not stop them from wanting to raise rent over $1,000. We declined to…
If you were to ask me 2 years ago my review would have been higher but the new management has set the bar for assisted living facilities on the ground. We declined to renew. Amongst the laundry list of complaints that I have for this place include, locking the air conditioning unit so that no one could adjust the temperature and setting it at 84 degrees when it is 90 degrees outside, not having a fully working kitchen including not even having a can opener, workers who get into screaming matches that almost turned physical, workers that we had to report multiple times for being rude and disrespectful to my mother, and more. The most flagrant issue was when even after knowing my mother does not have her own power of attorney the new owner tried to get her to sign a document to place her in hospice so that he could milk her for more money. She is nowhere near in need of that. If you love your mother, do not subject her to this facility. We moved her out as soon as the lease was up. When we packed up her items it was very clear that the staff had neglected to do the routine cleaning of her room which was supposed to be a part of the duties for them. If depressing were personified it would be this facility. I would not wish this place on another person's mother and I am glad to have mine moved out.
My dad was at Mayberry Gardens-Garland from April until July when he passed. My dad was well taken care of and proud to call Mayberry his final home. I believe the “homey atmosphere” is what made this place special as well as my dad delivered meals on wheels here years ago. If there was a problem, the new owner and management did their best to correct the problem in a timely manner. I could not have asked for more attentive staff in my dads last days. Those last days are difficult and will be forever grateful to the staff for helping my dad transition thru those last days as well as provide suport for me. Family isn’t always blood. ❤️
We moved my mother there in Sept 2023. In that time she did not get the care she so desperately needed. I had to calll several times to have them check on her and sometimes got no answer. It is especially bad on the weekends. I was going over daily to see that she got the care needed. Mayberry has had a change in ownership and not once was i introduced to them They do not answer phone calls or texts. We have moved her to another facility and i have been trying to work with them on the final bill. No one has returned my calls or emails. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE!!!! Do not make the mistake i did.
This is a very nice facility and the take good care of your loved ones.
My friend is in Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care Homes. They're a top-notch place, but my friend is just not happy there, and it doesn't have to do with Mayberry Gardens. However, I highly recommend Mayberry Gardens to anybody else looking for a place because they are wonderful. So it is not the place, it is my friend. They have individual houses, and each house has maybe 12 rooms. They have their own kitchen and staff, and their food is home-cooked, hot, and fresh every day. They look after the people. They're affordable. The staff is wonderful. They try to work with my friend. The food there is excellent. The place is excellent. It is clean. The staff is wonderful. They have programs of activities. They have an activity center there, it is just my friend is a loner, so he doesn't participate in any of that. But the place itself has a lot for other people. The rooms are a little bit smaller, but they're private rooms. They're nice and quaint. They have their own bathroom, but they don't have a shower in there. They still have a shower facility. The staff is wonderful. They try to do their best and take care of the places. They have been very nice. They try to put up with my friend. He's just not happy wherever he is.
We like the concept of Mayberry Gardens having multiple smaller buildings with fewer residents in each building. It's almost like little clusters of care centers that specialize in different needs. Each unit has different needs. There could be two or three units that have the same needs, but it's just a lot smaller and it seems like there's more attention on the ratios. Mom will move to their assisted living side with a little bit more assistance, but not quite memory care yet. After the assessment, they've decided that mom doesn't need full memory care yet and that was another thing we liked about them. They made it very personal and they didn't just classify her as memory care right off the bat. If she requires it, they can upgrade her to that level of assistance. Again, everything is smaller. The main areas are just smaller. Every one of these clusters has its own kitchen with people that prepare the meals and everything for just a smaller group. The amenities are not the quality kind with the leather chairs or the big giant TVs and the big workout rooms that we've seen in the other places, but for our particular need (because my mom can't see very well and most of those amenities would be wasted on her anyway), we like this place. It's more about the care and less about the nice furnishings and things like that. Everything seemed very clean. They give a lot of attention to those points. We went during two different meal times and the food smelled delicious, but we haven't tried anything. The staff has been very helpful.
