I am writing to share our family’s experience with Round Rock Assisted Living, following a six day stay for my father from June 5th through June 10th. We were referred to this facility by a hospice nurse, and during our initial conversations, Norman, nurse, assured us that my father would receive daily showers. I am writing to share our family’s experience with Round Rock Assisted Living, following a six day stay for my father from June 5th through June 10th. We made the decision to move him out urgently due to multiple failures in care, safety concerns, and misleading information provided to us prior to admission. We were referred to this facility by a hospice nurse, and during our initial conversations, Norman, nurse, assured us that my father would receive daily showers. He also stated that although they did not offer respite or trial stays, we would only be charged for the days he was there, plus a $1,500 community fee. This directly contradicted the information on their own website, which clearly advertised respite stays. The website also stated a 1:4 caregiver to resident ratio; once we questioned this, Layne, the acting owner, removed that claim from the site. During my father’s six days there, the level of care was far below what was promised. The facility had only one staff member on duty responsible for cooking, baking, laundry, caregiving, and medication administration. A caregiver openly expressed feeling overwhelmed. My father received only two showers during his entire stay, both provided by the hospice- not by facility staff. On June 9th, when we arrived to check on him, he was still wearing the same clothes from the previous day. My mother had to request a washcloth from Norman just to clean him up. That same evening, we discovered he had been given his medication at the wrong time (8 p.m.), which is known to cause insomnia. When my mother requested his anxiety medication, she was told it would have to wait, she needed to help another patient. The following day, we made the decision to remove my father from the facility. When we asked Norman for his medicine while packing him up, Norman handed us another’s patients’ medication. Once we got home, we realized we were missing his anxiety medication (a controlled substance), we went back and the caregiver couldn’t find it. We mentioned to her the incident with Norman mixing us the 2 patients medication boxes, she looked in the other patients’ box and found my father’s medication. This was extremely alarming and raised serious concerns about medication safety and compliance. Despite these significant failures in care, Layne has refused to refund any portion of the $7,800 my mother paid for six days. She insists that a contract was signed, while ignoring the fact that the facility did not meet the care standards they promised. It is clear that they are prioritizing sales over resident safety and well being. Layne has only been in charge for a few months, and while her father previously had a strong reputation, the current management is not operating at that standard. There is also another recent review describing a similar experience. Our Hospice nurse told us this facility had the appropriate care, she was going on previous visits when Don was in charge. Everything has changed since then. Based on what we witnessed, I strongly caution families to be aware of these issues. My father is at the end of his life, and the care he received at this facility was unacceptable and unsafe.
At first, it seemed like this facility was helping out my mother. She couldn’t get into any other facility, because she wasn’t expected to live more than 30 days. They generally charge $5,500 per month. She was there for exactly 14 days. In total, we were charged around $10,000 for those 14 days. They were made completely aware that she only had a few weeks left and that they were our only option. She was a very poor woman and now that she’s gone—I have to pay the remaining balance of around $7,000. This has crippled me financially. They couldn’t care less. They immediately threatened to sue…

They immediately threatened to sue and wouldn’t take my offer to pay for a full month plus the $2,500 deposit. I can’t afford a lawyer. These people are vultures.
Don and the team at Round Rock Assisted Living treated my mom like family with thoughtful and compassionate care. If your family is struggling to decide on options for your mom’s care, look no further. These folks are the very best.
So homey and beautiful. Food is homemade and delicious. Caregivers were trained in dementia care and really love and care for the residents. Loved this place!!
My mom was a resident for just over a year. I really appreciated Don's guidance through this process. The staff is amazing. They treated mom like family. There was always positive energy in the home.
Our mom has been under the care of Round Rock Assisted Living a little over a month now. The care she is receiving is exceptional. Don and all the caregivers there are amazing. My mom has someone 24/7 there to help and take care of her and the other residents of the home. As a family, we are so relieved knowing the care she is receiving. She is doing better than she has in years. We highly recommend talking to Don to see if RRAL is the place for your loved one. We never could have imagined our mom would be in such a wonderful caring home.
RRAL is a great place to work the team here is so caring for all the residents. The work environment is chill great resident to caregiver ratio. I’d definitely recommend this place for your loved ones. The owner Don is awesome very caring for the residents and his staff. I enjoy coming to work everyday to work with sweet residents and awesome staff. Couldn’t ask for more.
I was looking to find the perfect place for my mom, she had been in the hospital and needed more care than I could provide. I toured several options a while back, none of them were perfect. While the home was reasonably clean, nicely furnished, and appeared to be run well, I did not pick this homely option. The atmosphere felt a bit disingenuous. While I typically support small businesses, I was unable to warm up to this humble little place. I am certain the rustic domestic environment is endearing to some, it was just not what I was looking for, for my mom.
