Fr a goated spot for memory care
I like the homey feel of AvilaCare Memory Care of Lewisville. The ratio of patients per staff was nice. However, there was not a big outdoor space. The rooms were adequate. They were not excessively large or small. They do not provide transport though. You have to arrange your own for your loved ones where the other place has transport. The previous owner was helping them get established and was doing the marketing and leading the tour, but the new owner's brother (who's going to be running the one down here) was there also and doing it, so with them changing companies, you don't know how…

The dining area is kind of a large area. When we were there, they had a gentleman who was leading a sing-along thing, and the members were there in the dining room doing it. The tables were wood, but it was like a natural wood grain thick slab type, and they were quite pretty. The kitchen is in the center area, and they cook breakfast for everyone. The place was just bought, and so they were painting and doing things right then, giving everything a fresh coat. It looked nice.
AvilaCare Memory Care of Lewisville is a big house and they only had 16 people. The people that we met were just sweet and funny. It's an old house, but it was clean and it didn't smell like the clients weren't being taken care of. We had an appointment, so we knocked on the door. They let us in. They had no idea that we were coming. The nurse there was very sweet. She called the owner and apparently, he had just sold it, so she said, "You can call him directly" and I thought, there's nothing to call because it's such a small place, that I saw everything that we needed to see. She called the owner and apparently, he had just sold it, so she said, "You can call him directly" and I thought, there's nothing to call because it's such a small place, that I saw everything that we needed to see. It's really more towards the end-of-life thing for them. I was disappointed that the owner didn't show up. We liked the woman that showed us the place. She'd been there for a while. Apparently, they don't have a high turnover in staff, which is important to me. The patients all looked clean. It's not a new place and it's not fancy. Their stages were more advanced than what we saw over at the other place. It was a different world. Because of the people with Alzheimer's or dementia, they do crafts. They don't take them out anywhere. They might let them stay on the porch for a while if they're not mobile. They are directly across the street from Medical City in Lewisville. There's a restaurant. I asked a question "Do you get a van and take them out?" The staff says no, their clients are not able to. When we walked in, there was a bunch of ladies who wanted to hold our hands and kiss us and they're just watching TV. They were just so different. There was no gym because that's not what they're there for. They were there to be cared for. No one was wandering around. There was no place to get your hair done. If something happens, the EMT could walk across the street and get someone to help them.
I liked that it was very intimate. I toured the memory care and it was very cozy, more like a home, versus like a facility. They had activities. The staff was very well versed and caring. It's an older facility, but it was quaint and well kept.
We moved my father in about a year and a half ago. I was a little apprehensive at first but Chip(owner) and his team were very helpful throughout the whole process of getting him moved in. Since then I could not be more pleased with them. It's a smaller home style setting and the entire staff is very helpful and a more personal experience.
As we move through the holiday season and reflect on all that we're thankful for, our family has included Bee Hive Homes this year. Although it was a difficult decision to move our Mom, she has been a member of the Bee Hive family for 9 months now. The loving care and environment are exactly what she needed. We're so excited to see photos on FB of her involved in making crafts, celebrating holidays and birthdays, folding laundry, helping cook, and even exercising. Bee Hive was absolutely the perfect choice, and Mom has been blessed by the loving workers. Thank you, Bee Hive!
BeeHive Homes of Lewisville Old Town Memory Care is by far the golden gem of care facilities. I moved my mother there in June from another facility when an opening became available, best move for both of us! The team at BeeHive are ALL caring, loving and very patient. They style her hair, paint her fingernails and have her participate in crafts and baking even when she doesn’t want to, just to name a few things. They also encourage exercise. When my Mom arrived she was wheel chair bound due to circumstances from the other facility, this team has her learning to use her walker again with just love, patience and encouragement. This quality of care isn’t just given to my Mom, it’s given to all BeeHive residents. When you come to visit you witness the happy vibe the whole house has which brings joy to me that my Mom is being so well taken care of. Thank you team BeeHive.
My Mother reached the point where care at home wasn't possible anymore. I'm so glad I found Lori Williams (Senior Services, LLC). She gave me her top recommendations and BeeHive in Old Town Lewisville was unsurprisingly one of them. BeeHive is the perfect fit for my Mother. Samantha was the main reason we chose BeeHive. She has been doing this for at least 8 years and still has the upbeat enthusiasm as someone just starting out. She is clearly passionate about what she does and the care for her residents. My Mom has been at BeeHive for a month now and I have discovered that everyone working there seems to be a mirror image of Samantha. I can't imagine doing this highly demanding job of caring for those in memory care, but they all do it in the most positive way. It was tough for my sisters and I to make the decision to trust the care of our Mother to others, but we sure lucked out here. Samantha and her staff at BeeHive made her feel part of the family from day one and they continue to care for her as if she were family. Samantha is always on top of health care services as well (a nurse practitioner visits once a month!) so she is very efficient to communicate needs for my Mom with both myself and the nurses office. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Chip. Chip is the owner of BeeHive and reminded my sister of our uncle and made her feel very comfortable. He is quick with responding and has been instrumental in assisting with VA assistance requirements that I have. It is tough to make the decision to put our loved ones into a facility, but BeeHive makes it feel more like an extension of home. From top to bottom, BeeHive is a fabulous place. Thank you to everyone there. You are all amazing!
