Not All Nursing Homes Are Created Equal After three years of chemotherapy, my husband lost the ability to stand or walk. Following a 10-day hospital stay, we transferred him to a Plano nursing home highly rated by the state. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t reflect those accolades. While the facility boasted modern amenities like microwaves and refrigerators in each room, the care was severely lacking—hours-long waits for basic needs, inattentive nurses, and a cold, unresponsive leadership team. It was clear—we needed to find a better fit. Our new priorities were clear: a facility closer…
Our new priorities were clear: a facility closer to our home in Frisco, one that was clean, but most importantly, one where compassion and care were deeply felt. My son and I compiled a list of 14 nursing homes across McKinney, Allen, and Frisco, and began visiting them. We knew we’d found something special when we arrived at Stonemere during an ice storm, only to see the Director, Chris, personally delivering meals to residents because several staff couldn’t make it in. That kind of leadership spoke volumes. From that moment, our decision felt right. Culture always begins at the top, and both Chris and Linda, the Director of Nursing, set the tone for the compassionate care we found at Stonemere. Linda often begins her day at 2 AM—checking in on the overnight staff and ensuring standards never slip. Alongside assistant RNs Tiffany and Reshaan, they foster an environment where warmth is genuine and care is prioritized. Over time, my husband became completely dependent. He couldn’t eat, move, or even reach water on his own. A sling lift became necessary just to get him into a chair. I spent at least four hours a day, five days a week at the facility and witnessed the care firsthand. The aides were not only attentive but kind—feeding him patiently, moving him gently, and offering reassuring words like, “It’s okay, Papa. I’ve got you.” I could write pages naming everyone who supported both my husband and me over the course of his 21-month stay. While I can’t list them all, I must thank a few: Teddy, V, Pauline, Denice, Tom, Clarice, Shelter, Anthony, Francesca, Josh, Marilyn, Ketchy, Hope, Benjamin, and of course, Frejus. Your kindness meant more than you’ll ever know. The meals? Often quite good! I admit I sampled more than a few bites of his chicken fried steak or pork chop when he didn’t finish. The food arrived warm thanks to heated plates, though the drinks could use a larger glass, and the ice cream often didn’t survive long enough to stay frozen. Still, those are small things in the grand scheme. Stonemere isn’t flawless—no facility is. Staffing challenges, especially for CNAs, can be tough, and occasional oversights happen. An oxygen line might not be adjusted quickly, or meal delivery might lag. Holiday and weekend coverage isn’t always ideal. But what sets Stonemere apart is their response—they listen, adapt, and strive to improve. No nursing home is perfect, but choosing the right one depends on what matters most. For us, compassion, dedication, and human warmth made all the difference. We didn’t just make a good choice—we made the right one.

Executive Team: Stonemere is a very well managed facility. Under the leadership of their Executive Director Chris, residents comfort, care and safety appears to be their top priority and the entire management team execute on that premises. Management have established a culture where residents are treated with respect and kindness. In the last six months, I have had frequent interactions with the entire management team on an individual level and have fond them to be extremely helpful and approachable, they are open to receive feedback and ready to address any concerns residents or family brings up. They walk the facility daily to ensure smooth operation. Facility is always clean, smells fresh and well maintained. I want to extend my special thanks and appreciation to Ramon in admission, he made the admission process very smooth, Peaches in finance, her knowledge of the process and willingness to help. Linda and Ann for initial orientation and also for their on-going support. Helen in Social work, always have a big smile, very caring and always ready to help out, she is very knowledgeable and quick to address any questions or issues, always made sure to follow up. Ruby in HR, always have a big smile and ready to help and checking on my parents daily. I want to also express my sincere appreciation to the reception team and the kitchen crew – they play a critical role in making Stonemere a success. Thank You!
The rooms are spacious, well decorated. There was not one person staff, therapy, aides, nurses that was not exceptionally nice and caring. Wonderful aides were Hope, Tina, Denise. Wonderful nurse care provided by Lauren, Yannick, Rose, Bea. All the physical and occupational therapists were so positive and encouraging. Especially Justin, Debra, Trina, Tom. I would not hesitate to go there again if needed. The director Linda was so helpful with all my questions.
Mom's 1st shift aide, Denise is outstanding!! She gets to know her patients and anticipates their needs. She is kind, compassionate, loving, friendly, the list of positive comments could go on forever about Denise. The entire staff should learn to practice caring the way that Denise does. She creates Holy Moments all day long with her patients. Also, the PT, OT and Speech staff are awesome as well. Very encouraging as they work to help the patients heal. Second shift staff are also very caring. Third shift staff and the weekend staff need to seriously work on their people skills and learn about being kind and helpful to the patients there recovering from their trauma that put them in Stonemere in the first place.
My husband was a resident at Stonemere for over 3 months (April to July 2023). He received EXCELLENT care. The family wants to give an extra shout out to Denise who not only physically took care of his daily needs but also showed with her kindnesses how much she truly cared for his mental well being. The family will be forever grateful to her. She secretly must wear angel’s wings!! I highly recommend Stonemere Rehabilitation Facility!
Do not send anyone to this facility. It is called a "skilled nursing" facility but quite often, my husband was told "thats not my job." There were maybe 3 employees who knew what they were doing. The food wasn't good but he tried to eat. It was going right through him. He became weaker and weaker. The Hospitalist came once a week but only checked his vitals; asked no questions as to his condition. He eventually lost about 38 pounds before we got him out of there and back to the hospital ER where he was diagnosed with a serious Urinary Tract Infection and serious dehydration. He had bed sores and scars on his behind. After another week, he was sent to a "Real" rehab facility (Legacy at Willow Bend) where he was treated sooo much better, but was so weak, it took him a while to even stand. He was eventually told that Medicare said his time had run out and he had to be discharged. He has lost so much weight and is so weak, he will probably never get back to his old self. He finally came home May 2, and will continue to get home health care, but is definitely a changed person.
Hello All: My sister was at Stonemere many many times for Rehabilitation when she ended in the hospital and they would turn her around in 2 weeks and she would go back to her home. Then lately she started declining and kept getting aspitational pneunomnia and the hopsital wanted us to put her on hospice. That was in Oct. 2022. It was heartbreaking for me because it was like I was waiting for her to die. But the good care and Kirk Nutrition Director with his pureed food and thickened liquids. Kept her alive for 6 more months I am very greatful to them. So If you need a good place for your aging or aliling family member I highly suggest Stonemere you won't be sorry. Matt Director was great too. Also listened when i had something I wanted to try with Janice. Melissa the Head Nurse was very attentive. And Mary Lou always brought her over from the hospital right away. They had activites there she loved bingo singing and dancing. Most of which she did in physical therapy. I can't say enough about them. I hope this helps someone. JIllk
They have taken exceptional care of my grandmother and the nurses here are wonderful. Everyone I spoke to was so kind and patient. My grandmother has dementia and it’s been really sad to see, but they have been wonderful and so patient with her. Very grateful for this facility.
